I’m feeling happy today. I soothe my skin with lotion. I throw on my colorful cashmere khakis. Feel good, look good, play good.
I believe there is an unseen reality, unseen forces, unseen currents, that impacts one’s day to day life. I believe this reality impacts our energy, our relationships, and the way we design our day. I believe we step into our spiritually charged world where disciplines collide, devotion crashes into desires, and art conflicts with invocation.
Static Remembering
There has been a lot more snow than in years past all over the United States. With tons of snow, comes lots of companies being hired to clear the roads, sidewalks and driveways of snow. Though most people tend to hunker up in their homes to not deal with the cold weather, others have to throw on their boots and attempt to hold back the force of Mother Nature. I believe this experience is analogous to the way our body may respond to the clutter of what one may be feeling in their life. Whether it’s emotional fatigue, physical hampering, or mental stress it leads me to question what it may take to clear one’s spiritual energy. I wonder if energy clearing is an interruption to what may be forming in the spiritual realm or if it’s a disciplined act needed to connect with some sort of supernatural intention.
On the Highest Self Podcast, Sahara sits with her dear Frank Elaridi and discuss energy clearing through multiple avenues1. 15 minutes in to the podcast, Frank is reminded about a realization he had in his first week of God source consciousness2. Frank shares he had this ecstatic experience that was super intense while he laying in bed in his first week of silence3. Frank recalls when he came out of the ecstatic experience, he was looking at the door and saw light coming through the crack of the door4. Frank thought the light was pretty and became fixated on the crack in the door, noticing the door as a simple door, a plain white door5. Frank noticed the knob, the way the rectangle door fits within the walls6. Frank finds this to be brilliant, reflecting on how he never could have created a door that opens and closes with screws7. Frank wonders how humans would have done in their caveman years if they had a door to cover their cave like we have in our houses today8. Frank hypothesizes this would have been a massive breakthrough, where the mind came in handy them9. Frank continues, the mind as built a lot, but at the same time, that same mind recognizes it is somebody and it has certain identities10. Frank became distorted from his reflection, his comfort and distortion rushing in tantum11.
So this section did not go as planned, however, I will try to connect some pieces. Similar to the effect being “snowed in” does to humans, Frank laid in his bed. In this moment of stagnation, Frank had an ecstatic experience that came and left. Frank made something out of this moment, he saw the light, and allowed the light to fuel his half comfortable and half distortion imaginative mind. Frank’s pursuit of god source consciousness led to him having a rupture in his daily routine, and an awareness of the binary that left his mind tired. Whether the binary is comfort and distortion or if it’s miracle and manifestation, I would encourage you to use the power of your mind, the power of imagination. I would encourage you to embrace this power hidden in the static, remembering the creativity that resides deep within you, a version of yourself that may be authentic to all you can be.
Radical Speaking
Brainwashing is a term I am quite familiar with and have heard from those who are skeptical of religion. In my experience, brainwashing is a term that has a negative connotation and reflects that the one who is brainwashed is a sheepish individual. Looking at brainwashing from a historical or ancient perspective, I believe brainwashing would be considered a form of witchcraft or maybe even a spell conducted on an individual. In the Holy Bible, there are plenty of people who do their best to convince others that their god is the most powerful god. Some were more influential than others, their stories filled with actions that are not considered natural in the human experience.
On the Culture Apothecary Podcast, Alex Clark hosts Dr. Ana-Marie Temple, a holistic pediatrician, who breaks down treating eczema and brainwashing male significant others12. About 12 minutes in, Ana-Marie mentions she and her kids would watch a documentary called “Food Inc.” and Alex interjects with how much that documentary radicalized her13. Ana-Marie continues her story, stating her husband was not invited to watch Food Inc. with her and the kids, yet he comes lurking in and asking questions14. Alex jumps in once again, expressing how it’s always been the dad, the dad is always the one wondering what people are watching and judging what they are watching15. Ana-Marie continues her story once again, explaining Food Inc. is a documentary with a lot of learning16. Ana-Marie states John, Ana-Marie’s husband, is cerebral and loves learning and facts17. John learns about grass-fed products and Ana-Marie observes he starts to think a little differently18. This manifests as John asking less questions about Ana-Marie’s meat purchases and the whole family struggles to believe dad has let them eat lots of added sugar19. Ana-Marie accepts the decrease in push back and believes this is when John was starting to think, but it wasn’t the moment he changed20.
Alex and Ana-Marie discuss the power of influence, both in terms of skin care and in people’s diet. Ana-Marie shares her story of what it took to get her husband to agree with her on the food products they buy and the ingredients they eat. Ana-Marie had been well informed on grass-fed foods, and thought it would be important to educate her kids in a similar way to how she was educated and had informed her own beliefs around food. Ana-Marie believed in the importance of communicating what she knows to those she cares about, her community, to inform their current and future eating patterns. Ana-Marie and Alex both resonate with the times the men in their family, the dominant male voice in the house, had dictated the behaviors of their life to their liking. I challenge you to question how the patriarchy has shaped our environment, our rhythms, and our expectations. I challenge you to speak out against some of these aspects radically, and allow those who share your perspective to empower your voice.
Embodied Spellwork
I believe what someone wears shares a lot about what they value and what they believe, sometimes even what they represent. For some, their clothes allow them to step into a new found confidence, aligning themselves with how they feel or want to feel on the inside. For those with the financial resources to explore different styles of clothes, I believe shopping can become a cycle for them, a new design leading to a new person back to a new design.
On the Artistically Married Podcast, Brianne Steinburg and Jake Akkerman explore the significance of Mandalas and Jake’s artistic journey21. Towards the end of the podcast, Jake is sharing that he likes to design clothes and after a long monologue from Brianne, we learn Jake is starting a new brand for his business called Juxtaposed Apparel22. Jake continues, stating he called the company Kaleidoscope Designs for a while, making products such as shirts and pillows23. However, Jake’s logo was his initials, which didn’t really match with Kaleidoscope Designs and felt quite weird to him24. Jake continues, expressing how messy it felt and Brianne comments how no one could spell Kaleidoscope25. Jake resonates with Brianne’s point, and shares he wanted to find a name that was something he likes and was the same letters as his initials26. Jake remarks Juxtaposes Apparel was fun and it works27. Jake believes the name is a perfect word to describe his art as well due to how it incorporates stark contrasting comparisons of black and white28. Brianne asks if Jake has a motto yet and expresses that he needs a mission statement29. Jake, discouraged, contends that he is working on all these things and shares how much work and how hard it is to make a website30. Brianne closes this section wondering when she can buy and Jake responds with he’s not sure yet, but soon.
I loved Jake and Brianne’s podcast this week, and especially this snippet about restructuring a company or rebranding one’s craft. For Jake, he needed a restructuring that resonated more with what he was trying to build, who he is, and the art he is trying to create. At this moment, I feel like I may be at a similar point with Spectrum of Spirit, exploring opportunities to adapt my program to where I am positioning myself to transition. I believe Jake and I are vibrating at a similar frequency aspiring for something different, in the face of difficulty. Jake states how difficult it is to create a new website, a new mission statement, and even a motto. I believe it’s difficult for most to communicate what they care for while also protecting them from a treacherous business world. I believe it’s difficult for most for their passion to be both one’s altar and their armor. However, in my experience rebranding, I would recommend embodying one’s statutes in the quiet times before launch, allowing your style to form patiently, to draw an audience into one’s creative spell work.
Call to Imagine
Clean your imagination. Feel energized through your skin. Rethink your memory. Medicate through speech. Curate your “clothes”. Cast your spell on your environment. Wear and feel the static. Radicalize your inherited symbols. Watch yourself and embody. Shift your call. Understand the invisible. Inhale and become. Express intentionally.
